THE ART OF INSTANT FACIAL REJUVENATION.
Injectable dermal fillers are the cornerstone of volume replacement and rejuvenation in cosmetic medicine. They can plump thin lips, enhance shallow contours, soften facial creases, remove wrinkles and improve the appearance of scars.
With age we lose volume of the tissues under the skin and especially in the face, this can lead to thinning of the lips and scalloping of the cheeks or eye. Filler can help to enhance features and augment natural beauty by adding or replacing volume, helping to improve symmetry and lifting specific areas of the face.
Injectable Dermal Fillers are the area of injectable cosmetic medicine that requires the most detailed and experienced application to achieve the best natural results. As Taranaki's only Accredited Cosmetic Clinic you can rest assured you are in experienced and highly trained hands to ensure you get the best and most natural results.

The Answers You Need
WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS AND WHAT DO THEY DO?
Dermal fillers are a clear gel made of Hyaluronan, a carbohydrate naturally present in the body that declines with age. Hyaluronan encourages skin hydration and collagen formation. They also contain local anaesthetic for comfort. Elastic gels smooth deep lines and support dynamic areas such as the lips and mouth. Firmer gels restore youthful curvature and replace lost volume. Results last between 6-24 months depending on the selected filler, the area treated and individual metabolism.
HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR MY TREATMENT?
Book in advance, as treatment shouldn’t be within 4 weeks of planned dental treatment or intensive skin treatments or 4 days before an international flight. Also, allow 4 weeks before an important occasion for optimum healing.
Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatories and oil supplements 5 days before your treatment to minimise your chance of bruising.
Inform your practitioner if predisposed to cold sores, as preventative medication can be prescribed. Your practitioner may recommend treatments to condition the skin before your filler treatment, to optimise results.
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS?
The treated area will initially look red, swollen, feel tender or lumpy and bruising may appear after 12-24 hours. This generally takes 2-4 weeks to resolve. Due to factors like underlying facial asymmetry or scar tissue, results may be slightly uneven despite our very best efforts.
We recommend booking a complimentary follow-up consultation at 4 weeks after treatment to allow us to assess how you are going. This allows us to ensure optimal outcomes and address any questions you might have.
WHO SHOULD NOT HAVE HYALURONAN DERMAL FILLERS?
Those previously allergic to hyaluronan; with permanent fillers or facial implants; pregnant or breast-feeding; unwell with a cold, sinusitis or facial infection; prior keloid scarring; caution is needed for those with autoimmune disorders.
WHAT ARE THE RARE SIDE EFFECTS?
There is a very small risk of allergy, infection or the filler entering an artery. Any of these reactions must be promptly treated with a dissolving enzyme. Antibiotics and antihistamines may also be required. There have been extremely rare reports of blindness, with the treatment of the nose and between the eyes carrying a higher risk.
WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER FILLER TREATMENTS?
Cleanse your face as normal
Reduce swelling by gently applying intermittent cool packs, taking antihistamine medication and applying arnica or Hirudoid cream to help resolve bruising.
Please do not:
Exercise intensely, drink alcohol or wear makeup for the remainder of the day.
Swim, use a sauna or have facials for a week.
Have any firm pressure on the area for one month (such as face-down massage).
